Artic Refuge/ How do you like your weather?

As you remember if your very good at keeping up with the news is the artic refuge bill did not go through and they "the government" are not allowed to drill there. Unfortunately they are rewording their bill for next year so dont be fooled. If they go through with this we will loose:caribou and muskox, water quantity and quality, subsistence hunting and fishing, wilderness, and recreation and significant effects to snow geese, wolves, wolverines, brown bear, polar bears, vegetation, and permafrost terrain. As you know if you have read earlier posts the depletion of Permafrost is bad. 200 feet above your head bad along with massive weather and storm changes we cannot let the government go through with this plan of drilling in a wildlife refuge if they get their way who knows what is next. Wait maybe i can give you a small clue.....
No fish , No Animal habitat so most animals we know about go extinct, Plant species die out, Extreme weather: Hurricanes, Thunderstorms, Flood, Drought, etc. This will just be the beginning Also you know that permafrost hold co2 which is why all this will happen along with alot of rising ocean's and less drinking water and land available for all people's in every country this drilling and destroying of our last habitat's must be stopped. Read more about the Artic Refuge at:
artic refuge

So since im still talking on here your probally wondering what i am concluding
Well, here it is......

How do you like your weather? Shaken or stirred?
If the government is allowed to drill and/ or destroy permafrost here's what's going to happen: Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting look familiar? yea cool movie but what if you had to live it except no people in helicopters to take you to dry land. Well permafrost+ melting glacier = Day after Tomarrow.

And what happens if we stop the destroying of permafrost and glaciers but fail to do anything else?
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingMaybe something like this cold be a little better or it could be much worse!

So here's your job:
1. stop permafrost, ice and protected lands from being destroyed.
2.Stop emmisions of co2 in all forms protest, protest, protest.
3. Recycle, and show others you care by going eco, reduce your own emmisions
even if you cant change the world in an instant you can change yourself, and when more think the same way mountains can be moved!

Mass dog killings in beijing

from: http://network.bestfriends.org/international/news/9191.html

Best Friends has been receiving emails from many individuals in Beijing and throughout China asking for help in stopping the campaign of seizing dogs. These calls for help state that private homes are being entered, and that people’s dogs are being removed, taken away and presumably being killed. Street dogs are also being rounded up.

In Beijing people are permitted to own one small dog. Small is defined as less than 35 cm (14”). The dog must be licensed.

City officials have begun entering people’s homes and confiscating all “illegal” dogs, that is those that are unlicensed, or larger than 14 inches or the “extra” dogs in homes with more than one dog.

Also being picked up by city agents are street dogs who are over 35 cm in height. Based on prior round-ups of dogs in Chinese cities, including recent round-ups in which dogs were killed with extreme brutality, it is widely believed that the dogs rounded up in Beijing are being killed, both the street dogs and the “owned” dogs.

It is estimated that there are approximately one million dogs in Beijing. Having dogs as companions has become popular in recent years among Chinese people, especially city-dwellers.

A mass killing of street dogs took place prior to the Olympics in Athens, and it is believed likely that this dog culling in Beijing has as its purpose the “cleaning up” of the city before the 2008 Olympics.

WHAT IS (AETA) THE ANIMAL ENTERPRISE TERRORISM ACT?

The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) is a bill which seeks to amend the 1992 Animal Enterprise Protection Act (AEPA - PL 102-346), a section under Title 18 of the criminal code which protects animal enterprises from illegal acts comitted by animal activists.

The AETA bill (S 3880) recently passed in the Senate on Sept. 30th, 2006, was introduced by Mr. Inhofe (R-OK), Mrs. Feinstein (D-CA), Mr. Thune (R-SD), and Mr. Isakson (R-GA).

Its counter-part is currently pending in the House (H.R. 4239) and will be voted on sometime in November after congress reconvenes from recess on November 9th.

WHY AETA IS NOT GOOD FOR US

• AETA risks having a chilling effect on First Amendment protected speech for everyone including law abiding citizens, who risk being tarnished a terrorist even if wrongfully charged. On the chance that a law-abiding citizen wins his/her case, the damage to their reputation will already be done. Appeals often take years.

• Anyone engaging in non-violent civil
disobedience causing at least $10,000 profit loss, will be considered a terrorist. If this were law at the turn of the 20th century, the suffragettes, notably Susan B. Anthony, as well as, civil rights leaders including Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, and Mahatma Ghandi, may have been labelled terrorists.

• AETA risks punishing content based speech.

• AETA would foster a slippery slope and a precedent by which to target other content-based speech as terrorism or target any unfavorable group as terrorists.

• AETA risks singling out animal advocates for
penalties that are harsher than for other felonies.

• Laws penalizing tort, harassment, etc. already exist and the bills' additional penalties are unnecessary.

• The bills' exemptions would not be an adequate defense against being wrongfully arrested or charged, and do not resolve ambiguities in the bills or the chilling effect on protected free speech.

• AETA risks further frustrating protected free speech rights that calls attention to the government's failure to enforce the Animal Welfare Act. There are no similarly harsh penalties against animal enterprises that are in gross violation of the AWA, or that act with depraved indifference or with intent to do harm.

SUMMARY

We believe that the true purpose of AETA , is to severely chill AR activism by intimidating those who would legally protest, and as such attempts to prevent the loss of profit to corporations and businesses -special interest groups (who see the ever swelling tsunami of Animal Rights and Animal Welfare consciousness) heading right their way.

We further believe that there are sufficient laws already on the books to accomodate any and all illegal activist activities. As an example, Surely, we do not advocate threat, vandalism, and bodily injury, but why should any sector of society receive special treatment and consideration under the law from threat, vandalism and bodily harm moreso than any other sector?

The justice system has already successfully prosecuted cases using existing law and we maintain that AETA isnot only uneccessary but will have a stigmatic and chilling effect on our first amendment rights to free speech, preventing individuals from exercising their right to protest, under the constitution, for fear of being unjustly labeled and prosecuted as a terrorist.

The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act is in all likelihood not constitutional and needs to be stopped now before it becomes law. The Senate passed S 3880 in the 'wee hours' of 09/30/06 and the House is next in line to vote sometime after November 9th.

Don't sell out your rights to corporate America! Let your voice be heard!

article on definition of organic from: planetsave.com

Eating Local Organic Reduces Global Warming
Written by PlanetSave
Thursday, 24 August 2006

First lets define organic. An article at PlanetSave.com by the Associated Press states that: Food or textiles certified ``organic'' by the U.S. Department of Agriculture must meet this definition:

``Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations. Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation.''

I would add to that definition. I would like to add the word local. Grown by your local farms. Why? Because buying local organic makes a much greater impact in the reduction of greenhouse gasses and global warming and is better for your local economy.

Burning one gallon of gas releases five pounds of carbon into our atmosphere. So how much carbon is released into the atmosphere when you go to the local grocer in North East, USA and buy tomatoes that are organic yet come from the Netherlands? The answer is too much.

What can we do? First of all we can eat locally. We can buy from farmers markets. Farmers markets have been popping up everywhere and you get fresher, tastier food.

Local organic shopping is not always convenient and I don’t think that it is all up to the consumer to make eating locally become a reality. However, it would be hard to make the big markets change with out the consumer acting first. Hopefully the large supermarkets that sell organic will start selling local organic. Wal-Mart sells organic but I doubt it is local. I don’t shop there so I can’t be 100% sure.

When you buy organic, make sure you are not buying from a company that is simply “Green Washing”.

---------------------------------------------------
from Cafegurl17,
in the case that you would like to find the organic farmer near you go to localharvest.org it's a great search engine, i found three near my home.
"this will also be a link in the links section for later reference!"
Also some of the places at localharvest sell wool for extremely cheap prices, if you like to knit, crochet etc. buy it there and you know that you've saved alot of co2 by not buying it at the store.
